Egg Donors|compensation paid to the donors |Legal issues

What is the compensation paid to egg donors?

Infertile couples need egg donors help when the intended mother fails to produce quality and healthy ova. However, as of in surrogacy, the egg donor is compensated for her time and service besides the appreciation and gratitude from the intended parents. Egg donation provides a potential to the childless couple to create their family. This often provides a sense of satisfaction in donor’s heart as they’re helping couples in creating their family. However, egg donation is a process which requires the commitment and personal sacrifice. For their sacrifice and extreme commitment, the donors are compensated with gratitude.

Average compensation paid to the donors:

According to the US journal of fertility and sterility, the average compensation paid to first time donors is approximately $4200. However, this average egg donor compensation differs by geographic location. The lowest compensation is paid in most of the northwest countries and in contrast the highest payment can be expected in the western countries. Most of the egg donor clinics offer the prescribed amount to the first time donors. However, if the donor ovum matches with the extraordinary traits, she can expect highest compensation.

Legal Issues:

According to the US Law, selling body tissues is considered illegal. However, any payment made to donors is considered as the compensation paid for their inconvenience and time. There is no low governing how much this compensation can be, but according to the ASRM (American Society for Reproductive Medicine) any compensation paid above $5000 requires justification and the compensation paid above $10,000 is not acceptable.
